Uutta keittiöön: purkinavausapulainen ja tiskirättejä - Something new for kitchen: jar opener helper and dishcloths

Vuosia sitten tein ensimmäisen "apulaisen", jota kutsuin silloin "purkinavaajaksi". Eihän se mitään purkkia tai korkkia yksin avaa mutta antaa hyvin vipuvoimaa tiukkien korkkien ja kansien avaamisessa. Vanha on ollut kovassa käytössä ja jo hieman kulahtanut. Tein kaksi uutta, isomman kotikäyttöön ja pienemmän mukana pidettäväksi juuri pullonkorkkien avaamiseen.

Tähän tarvitaan vain kaksi samankokoista palaa liukuestemattoa, mitkä yhdistetään virkkaamalla ne yläreunasta kiinni toisiinsa.

Years ago I made my first "helper". I then called it a jar opener although it won't open any jar lids by itself but it is a great help with those stubborn lids that are tighly screwed on jars. The first one I made has been in heavy use and it is already pretty worn out and needed a replacement. I made two new ones, the bigger one for home use and the smaller, portable one for water/soda bottle lids. It is small enough to fit into a pocket and even a small handbag.

All you need: two pieces of the anti-slip mat that are attached together by crocheting them.

I also crocheted much needed new dishcloths, one using the waffle stitch and the other alternating single and half double crochet stitches.

Uusi peitto - New blanket

Virkattu Dyyni-peitto valmistui. Huom! Peiton nimellä ei ole mitään tekemistä samannimisen kirjan tai elokuvan kanssa. Hankin langat Englannista ennen kuin se erosi EU:sta. Aiemmin olen virkanut tämän aaltokuvioisen peiton ja myös peiton isoäidin nelioistä.

I finished crocheting my Dune blanket. Please note that the name of the blanket has nothing to do with the book or movie by the same name. Previously I have crocheted one Ripple blanket and a throw using grandma squares.

Mug warmers - Mukinsuojat

I crocheted two mug warmers, the red one for myself and another one as a gift to a friend. Measure your mug height, create the amount of chain stitches needed, and either crochet according to a pattern or just simply double crochet until the warmer reaches the desired length. These are quick to make.

Pussukka nappikuulokkeille - Pouch for earpods

Tarvitsin säilytyskotelon nappikuulokkeille. Ostamisen sijaan, ensin virkkasin pussukan (oikealla) isohkoksi isoäidin neliöksi mutta se ei oikein toiminut johtojen takia. 

Sitten ompelin pussukan kaksinkertaisesta Tampellan puuvillakankaasta, mistä oli alunperin verhot lapsuuden huoneessani. Verhokangas on osittain auringon haalistama eikä siis sovellu enää kokonaisuudessaan verhoksi. 

Ommeltu pussukka toimii ja nyt kuulokkeet ovat helposti löydettävissä, käytettävissä ja mukaan otettavissa.

I needed a storage case for my earpods. Instead of buying one, I first crocheted a large granny square that I folded into a small pouch  (on the right) for them but it didn't work very well with the wires that kept sticking out of the holes. 

Then I sewed a pouch from a piece of fabric from which I had curtains hanging at the window of my childhood room.  The fabric is partly faded by the sun so it can no longer be used as a curtain. 

The sewn pouch is perfect for the pods that are easy to find, use, and take with me in a bag.

I crocheted a pouch from mercerized cotton yarn for storing small stuff. The size is: 10 x 16.5 cm.

Kaupasta ostetut lasinaluset tarttuvat kiinni jos lasin tai mukin pohja on vähänkin kostea. Kun nostaa lasin, alunen kulkee mukana. Kätevääkö? No ei! Alunen rämähtää iloisesti lattialle. Virkkasin merseroidusta puuvillalangasta tilalle uusia alusia. Halkaisia 8,5 cm.

We're using store-bought coasters that always stick to the bottom of the glass or mug, especially if the glass is a bit wet. Handy drinking from a glass with the coaster attached to the bottom? Nope! The coaster usually drops down to the hardwood floor. So, I crocheted a bunch of new coasters from mercerized cotton yarn, with a diameter of 8.5 cm.

Ötökkäsuoja lasille - Crocheted glass cover

Madam B.C:n blogissa oli kiva ohje lasin ötökkäsuojalle. Pitihän sitä kokeilla vaikka aivan tyytyväinen en ole lopputulokseen. Käytin puuvillalankaa 3,5 koukulla. Halkaisija on 15 cm ja suoja sopii paremmin kannulle kuin lasille.

Madam B.C. published instructions on how to crochet a glass cover. I had to make one but I'm not entirely happy about it. I used cotton yarn with a 3.5 size hook. The cover's diameter is 15 cm and it's best suited for use on a jug rather than a glass.
